Thank you & Goodnight! – Covent Garden

Posted on by Sophies

I’m writing today to keep you in the loop of some changes happening at Sophie’s Steakhouse over the next few months.

To cut to the chase, we shall be closing our Covent Garden restaurant on 4th June 2017.

We are lucky to love what we do. Indeed, many of our best business decisions have been led by the heart. Opening in Covent Garden was no exception: Despite being a huge project, we knew it was the right place for us. Therefore, we can understand entirely why a world-leading boutique hotel has fallen in love with our corner of Covent Garden. After some long and serious discussions, we’ve decided that it’s the right time to move on from the Covent Garden site and allow another interesting project to move into that space.

Rupert & I opened our Covent Garden restaurant in November 2008 on a mission to serve great steaks and fab cocktails in a warm, welcoming and (most importantly!) fun environment. I am so proud of what our team has accomplished on this journey together and hope you agree that we have achieved what we set out to deliver.

But, every journey has an end. Although we’re sad to say goodbye to Covent Garden, we couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds. We are currently building a new venue in Soho, which we hope to launch in Autumn 2017. We would love you to join us on our next step. Sign up to hear about our latest Soho news here

Our industry is all about people – one of the pleasures of owning and operating a business like ours is watching your team grow with you. Rupert & I cannot thank our team enough for all their hard work and support. We have witnessed the birth of more than a few restaurant super stars amongst our team since 2008 and feel so lucky to come to work everyday with such a dynamic and engaging group of people.

Our Chelsea restaurant remains open all day every day. If you need a Sophie’s fix before Autumn, I would recommend heading West to the Sophie’s original!

Covent Garden remains an alluring part of town for us and we plan to return when the time is right. Watch this space…

Finally, we would like to thank our incredible, loyal guests for all the memorable moments of the of the past few years. It has been a truly special experience and we look forward to welcoming you back in Chelsea and Soho very soon.

We would love to see you in Covent Garden before the final service. Do please drop by for a Chilli Martini (or three!)

Thank you all for your continued support – we couldn’t do it without you.

Sad news but must always look forward. I remember the long nights at the soft launch at covent garden.
Looking forward to the Soho opening.

  2. Will miss this fabulous venue when in town. I have been a loyal customer for many years, always stopping by, when down on business from the Isle of Skye. Look forward to hearing about the new restaurant, which I’m sure will be equally awesome. Good luck 🙂

    Dear Sophie & Rupert,
This is sad but exciting news all at the same time.
I have been coming to your Covent Garden restaurant for many years and have had so many good personal and also a lot of business lunches and dinners at Sophie’s.
A lot of the best business deals I have done over the last few years have been over a great Cote de Boeuf at your restaurant.
I dealt with a gentleman buy the name of Matt Belcher who looked after me one afternoon when I was having lunch with a client and his friendless & professionalism where excellent.
The last time I checked I was No:8 in the Steak Club ranking so I will need to make a big push to improve on that before you leave Covent Garden.
Good luck with the move up to Soho and I will be one of your first guests through the door when you open.
    Best Regards,
